From ‘My hamster died’ to real conversation
Hi there, and yes... that is the only phrase I still remember from my GCSE German course.

Firstly, thank you for spending your time getting to know me. I'd like to tell you the story of how discovered my love of languages, became an English teacher in Spain and started my own business. I hope you can relate to it.
​
My story starts at school, where I remember spending years learning languages yet, at the end of it all, the only things I remembered were the useless phrases like those in the title.
​
"Ach nein! Mein Hamster ist gestorben!"
Other more practical skills like booking a train or ordering food were ignored (or I was so bored in class that I didn't remember them).
I must admit though, I was also one of those students who thought I didn’t need other languages as, "everyone speaks English, don't they?" Well, I'm glad to say that I've grown a lot since then and learnt my long overdue lesson.

The moment everything changed was when I was 24. I hated my job and needed to escape, so I decided to travel around Latin America for a whole year.
Now, because a majority of those countries speak Spanish, I committed to studying the language every day and through doing so, I met so many inspiring people that I couldn't have met without the language and, ultimately, discovered my passion for teaching.

After obtaining my CELTA qualification, I believed that moving to Andalucia would be easy seeing as I alrady spoke some of the language. Little did I know how wrong I would be!
Pronunciation, phrases, culture... so many things were different, it was like learning the whole language from the beginning.

Using all this experience, I now help students speak English naturally, confidently, and in real-life situations — NOT just "Oh no...My hampster died."
​Oh, and I make sure we all have a good time too!
